Game Overview

I picked up Top Gear for the SNES back in '92, a game from Gremlin Graphics that landed right in the thick of the console's early life. It was a straightforward racing title, one of many vying for attention, but it carved out its own space without a lot of flashy promises or big licenses behind it.

You choose from a selection of cars and race on circuits set across the globe, from tight city courses to wide open desert stretches. The main goal is simple: finish first. You manage your car's wear through pit stops, which adds a layer of strategy beyond just speed, and you have to constantly watch for obstacles and other cars that can spin you out. The pacing is relentless, and the AI drivers are fiercely competitive, making even mid-pack positions a struggle. It feels tense and demanding, a game where every small mistake costs you dearly.
