Game Overview

Ocean Software released Top Gun for MS-DOS in 1987, a game that captured the high-octane feel of the film during a time when flight simulators were still finding their footing on home computers. It was part of that wave of early PC titles that tried to translate blockbuster action into something playable with a keyboard and a lot of imagination, sitting right alongside other ambitious but technically limited ports of the era.

You pilot Maverick's F-14 Tomcat, tasked with completing missions that involve dogfighting enemy MiGs, refueling mid-air, and attempting precarious carrier landings. The gameplay shifts between first-person combat sections, where you target bandits with a limited supply of missiles and your vulcan cannon, and tense, timing-based sequences like lining up with the tanker or aligning with the deck of the moving carrier. The difficulty is unforgiving; a missed approach or a few stray bullets often means restarting the entire mission. Despite the simple graphics and sometimes stubborn controls, successfully navigating a mission from takeoff to a safe landing delivers a genuine sense of relief and accomplishment.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
