Game Overview

I picked up Tunnels and Trolls: Crusaders of Khazan back in the day, a 1990 MS-DOS release from New World Computing. It was part of that wave of early computer RPGs that tried to translate the feel of tabletop adventures onto the screen, using the hardware we had then. The graphics were functional, the sound was basic, but it had a certain charm that pulled you into its world.

You control a party of adventurers, moving them screen by screen through dungeons and wilderness areas. The main goal is to explore the land of Khazan, fight monsters, and complete quests. Combat is turn based, resolved through a simple dice rolling system that determines hits and damage. You manage equipment, spells, and your party's health, facing frequent and often difficult encounters. It feels like a direct, sometimes unforgiving, translation of a pen and paper session onto your computer.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
