Game Overview

Walls of Rome came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Mindcraft. It was one of those straightforward strategy titles from the era, focused on a single clear idea rather than sprawling complexity. You don't get elaborate cutscenes or a deep tech tree; it's just you, your wall, and the endless tide of invaders.

You control the resources and defenses of a Roman outpost. Your main objective is to survive wave after wave of barbarian attacks by managing gold to repair wall breaches and hire archers. The core mechanics involve clicking to assign workers to damaged sections, purchasing new units, and constantly watching the minimap for the next assault. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty spikes quickly if you fall behind on repairs or run out of coins. It feels like a tense, losing battle where every small decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
