Game Overview

Wembley Rugby League came out in 1996 for MS-DOS, developed by Audiogenic Software Ltd. It was part of that wave of sports games trying to capture the feel of a real match on home computers, back when top-down perspectives and simple graphics were the norm. The game focused on Rugby League specifically, which set it apart from the more common union titles at the time.

You control a team of thirteen players, directing passes, kicks, and tackles across a vertically scrolling pitch. The main goal is to score more tries than the opponent within the time limit. Key mechanics include managing your six tackles wisely before turning over possession, engaging in quick scrums to regain the ball, and executing that distinctive play-the-ball animation after a tackle. The pace is brisk, almost frantic at times, with matches often feeling scrappy and unpredictable. It captures the rough-and-tumble energy of the sport in a way that feels both clumsy and earnest.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
