Play Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (Deluxe) (CD-ROM) Online

You jet around the globe chasing Carmen's crew, sweating over pixelated informants and scrambling to match clues with your dog-eared world almanac before time runs out. That "Stop, thief!" voice still gives me flashbacks.

Game Overview

I first played Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (Deluxe) on MS-DOS back in 1992, when Brøderbund was putting out some of the most memorable educational games. It was part of that wave of CD-ROM titles that made learning geography and history feel like a real adventure, not just homework.

You play as a rookie detective tracking Carmen Sandiego and her thieves across the world. The goal is to follow clues, interview witnesses, and eventually issue a warrant for the right suspect before they escape. Key mechanics include navigating cities screen by screen, using a physical world almanac (or the in-game version) to match facts, and making careful deductions under time pressure. The pacing is brisk; you have to think and act quickly. It feels like being part detective, part traveler, always one step behind but eager to catch up.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
