Game Overview

Wizardry IV: The Return of Werdna came out in 1987 from Sir-Tech, a developer well known for its deep role-playing games on MS-DOS. It arrived during a time when dungeon crawlers were complex, text-heavy affairs, demanding patience and careful mapping from players who were used to thinking in graph paper and note cards.

You play as Werdna, the evil wizard defeated in the first Wizardry, starting at the bottom of the dungeon with almost no power. Your goal is to climb upward, floor by floor, reclaiming your strength and seeking revenge on the party of adventurers that imprisoned you. You explore the maze screen by screen, hunting for pentagrams that let you summon monsters to fight on your behalf; combat is turn-based, and you command your creatures rather than attacking directly. The game is notoriously difficult, filled with devious puzzles and enemies that can easily overwhelm you if you're careless. It feels like a tense, methodical reversal of everything you thought you knew about dungeon crawling.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
