Game Overview

WWF WrestleMania on the NES came out in 1990, developed by Rare and published by Acclaim. It was one of the earlier wrestling games on the system, arriving before the more polished WWF titles that followed. You could pick from six WWF stars, like Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior, and jump into a single match or a full tournament.

You control your chosen wrestler from a side view, moving left or right to grapple your opponent. The main goal is to pin them for a three count or force a submission. Signature mechanics include building up a special meter by landing moves; once full, you can unleash a powerful finisher. Matches play out screen by screen, with the action resetting if you or your opponent gets thrown out of the ring. The pacing is deliberate, the controls can feel stiff, and the difficulty spikes noticeably in later matches. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to capture the spectacle of wrestling on a limited console.
