Game Overview

X-Men: Mutant Wars on Game Boy Color is one of those classic side-scrolling brawlers where you get to wreck stuff as your favorite mutants. Wolverine slashes, Storm zaps enemies with lightning, and Cyclops blasts everything in sight—it’s exactly as chaotic as it sounds. The cool part? You can swap characters on the fly when one gets tired, letting them recover while another steps in. Some sections even force you to think tactically—like needing Iceman’s freeze to cross gaps or Gambit’s charged cards to hit distant switches.

There’s also this brutal boss rush mode where if a character gets knocked out, they’re done for good. Magneto’s fight is as unfair as you’d expect, but pulling off a win with your last surviving X-Man feels amazing. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, and the soundtrack has that crunchy GBC charm. It’s not the deepest beat-’em-up, but swapping powers mid-fight keeps it fun.
