Play Yar's Revenge Online

Yar's Revenge came out in 1981 for the Atari 2600, published by Atari itself. It was one of those games that felt different from the usual arcade ports or simple shooters of the time, with its abstract, almost surreal look and a sense of isolation that stuck with you.

You control a small ship called the Yar, moving up and down along the left side of the screen. Your goal is to destroy the Qotile, a swirling enemy on the right, by firing a charged shot from your Zorlon Cannon. You build charge by avoiding enemy fire and staying alive; if you wait too long, the Qotile transforms into a destructive, screen-crossing missile you must evade. The pacing is tense, methodical at times, then suddenly frantic. It feels like a careful dance with sudden, unpredictable bursts of danger.
