Game Overview

I first played Ys II Special on MS-DOS back in the mid-90s, when it was released by Aproman as part of the Classic Games series. It was a time when action RPGs were still finding their footing on PC, and this one stood out for its brisk pace and vibrant, colorful world. The game picks up right where the first Ys left off, continuing the story of Adol Christin in a way that felt familiar yet fresh for players returning to the series.

You control Adol as he explores the land of Esteria, moving screen by screen through towns, fields, and multi-level dungeons. Your main goal is to uncover the mystery of the twin goddesses and the demons threatening the land, which involves gathering key items, upgrading your gear, and defeating bosses. Combat is simple but engaging; you ram into enemies at specific angles to deal damage, and later gain access to magic like fireballs that add some tactical variety. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike in certain areas, especially the later dungeons. Playing it feels like stepping into a compact, energetic adventure where every screen holds something worth discovering.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
