Game Overview

Zoids 2: Zenebas no Gyakushuu is one of those NES games that makes you wonder why it never left Japan. You’re basically a mech commander, but instead of just blasting through enemies, you’re juggling upgrades, terrain advantages, and which of your biomechanical beasts to deploy next. The first time I sent a Godos into battle and watched its pixelated claws rip into an enemy Zoid, I was hooked.

It’s way more tactical than most NES games—you’ll spend as much time tweaking your squad as you do fighting. The Zenebas Empire doesn’t mess around either; they’ll flank you, ambush you, and generally make you regret rushing in unprepared. The sprites are chunky but full of personality, especially when your Redler swoops in for a bombing run. If you’re into retro mech games with actual strategy, this one’s a blast—just bring patience (and maybe a strategy guide).
