Game Overview

ABC Wide World of Sports Boxing came out in 1991 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Data East. It was a straightforward boxing title for its time, fitting right in with the era's pixel-heavy sports simulations that prioritized simple controls over flashy presentation. You didn't get cinematic cutscenes or elaborate career modes; it was just you, a joystick or keyboard, and a ring.

You control a boxer from a side view, using keys or a joystick to throw jabs, hooks, and uppercuts while bobbing and weaving to avoid incoming punches. The main objective is to knock out your opponent or win on points by landing more clean hits. Signature mechanics include blocking high and low to defend against different punch types, and a stamina system that punishes wild swinging by making your fighter sluggish. The pacing is fast, rounds are short, and the difficulty can spike sharply against later opponents. It feels like a quick, no-frills scrap where every landed punch has a real sense of impact.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
