Game Overview
Air Conflicts: Aces of World War II came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by G5 Software and published by Graffiti Entertainment. It was one of the few dedicated flight combat games on the PSP, offering portable dogfighting during a time when the handheld was full of RPGs and action titles. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just gives you planes and targets, which was exactly what some of us wanted back then.
You pilot a variety of Allied and Axis aircraft, completing mission-based objectives across European and Pacific theaters. Main goals involve escorting bombers, destroying ground installations, or engaging in intense dogfights against enemy pilots. Signature mechanics include managing your throttle and flaps for optimal speed and maneuverability, using a targeting reticle to lead enemy planes effectively, and switching between first-person cockpit and third-person chase views. The pacing is brisk, with missions throwing you into action quickly, though the difficulty can spike during complex multi-objective sorties. It feels straightforward and satisfying, especially when you line up a perfect shot and watch an enemy aircraft spiral toward the ground.
