Altered Beast came to MS-DOS in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a port of Sega's arcade hit. It was a time when side-scrolling beat 'em ups were common, and this one stood out for its strange premise and transformation mechanics. You played a warrior resurrected by Zeus to rescue his daughter from the underworld, moving through a series of haunted, monster-filled landscapes.

You control the muscle-bound hero, walking from left to right and punching or kicking a parade of undead and mythical creatures. The main goal is to reach the end of each stage and defeat the boss. Key mechanics include collecting spirit balls dropped by certain enemies; gathering three transforms you into a powerful beast like a werewolf or dragon, each with unique attacks. The game is short but notoriously difficult, with stiff controls and aggressive enemies that can quickly drain your health. It feels clunky and unforgiving by modern standards, but there's a raw, chaotic charm to bursting into a new form and tearing through skeletons.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
