Game Overview

Arcus Spirits is one of those weird little SNES gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this cool isometric hack-and-slash thing going on that feels like a mix between Diablo and an old-school arcade brawler. You pick from four characters (mage, warrior, archer, or ninja) and just go to town on waves of monsters. The perspective takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of dodging attacks at an angle, it clicks.

Each level has its own vibe—some are straight-up monster mashing, others throw in light puzzles or traps. The warrior’s my favorite for sheer brute force, but the ninja’s speed makes some sections way less frustrating. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s all about the chaotic, slightly janky fun of clearing rooms without getting cornered. Definitely worth a look if you’re into obscure 90s action RPGs.
