Game Overview

Ever tried putting a broken kingdom back together? Ashes of Empire is one of those old MS-DOS games where you spend half your time negotiating with shady nobles and the other half regretting those negotiations when they betray you. The pixel art hasn’t aged well, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about moving tiny armies across a map that looks like it was drawn in someone’s notebook.

What got me hooked was how the game actually makes you think—you can’t just spam knights and win. I lost my first playthrough because I ignored trade routes (who knew grain shipments mattered so much?). And the writing? Surprisingly decent for a game where most characters are about five pixels tall. If you’ve ever stayed up too late playing Civ or Heroes of Might and Magic, this one’s worth digging up from the abandonware graveyard.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
