Game Overview

I picked up Asterix for the NES back in 1993, a game developed and published by Infogrames Europe. It was one of those late-era releases for the system, arriving when the 16-bit consoles were already dominating, but it still offered a solid, straightforward adventure. Based on the popular comic series, it translated the world of the indomitable Gauls into a side-scrolling action platformer that felt right at home on the NES.

You control either Asterix or Obelix, each with their own strengths; Asterix is quicker and can use a temporary power-up from a magic potion, while Obelix is stronger and can break certain blocks. You move screen by screen, punching Romans, avoiding obstacles, and collecting scrolls to open the door to the next stage. The main goal is to rescue the druid Getafix, who has been kidnapped, by fighting through six themed worlds. The pacing is brisk, though some sections demand precise jumps and careful enemy management. It feels like a classic, challenging run-and-punch adventure that captures the spirit of the comics well.
