I picked up Asterix & Obelix: Bash Them All! for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag. This one was developed by Bit Managers, and it stood out for being a straightforward, no-nonsense beat 'em up that didn't try to overcomplicate things. It felt right at home on the GBA, a system packed with portable action titles.
You control either Asterix or Obelix, working your way through Gaul to rescue Getafix from the Romans. The gameplay is all about moving from screen to screen, clearing out waves of legionaries with basic combos and special attacks. Asterix is quick and uses his sword for rapid strikes, while Obelix is slower but can pick up and throw enemies with ease. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is fair, never feeling cheap. It's a satisfying, simple joy to just plow through Romans without a second thought.
