Barbie Magic Genie Adventure came out in 2000 for the Game Boy Color, developed by Vicarious Visions. It was one of those late-era GBC releases that tried to squeeze a bit more life out of the hardware before the Advance took over. The game puts you in a colorful, storybook version of the Middle East, with Barbie as a genie trying to stop an evil sorceress.
You control Barbie as she explores screen by screen, talking to characters and solving environmental puzzles to progress. The main goal is to collect magic lamps hidden throughout each area; some are in plain sight, while others require you to complete tasks like guiding a nervous mermaid home or catching falling crystals before they shatter. The pacing is relaxed, and the difficulty stays low, making it easy to pick up and put down. It feels like a gentle, exploratory puzzle game wrapped in a familiar license.
