Beetle Adventure Racing! is one of those N64 gems that somehow makes racing a bunch of VW Beetles way more exciting than it sounds. You’ve got these chunky little cars—some tricked out for off-road, others for speed—and the tracks are these sprawling, twisty courses with hidden shortcuts everywhere. First time I played, I missed like half of them because they’re tucked behind trees or down sketchy dirt paths.

The races are long enough that you actually have to think, not just mash the accelerator. And if you’re feeling mean, there’s a battle mode where you can blast friends with rockets or drop mines while scrambling for a flag. The AI isn’t brutal, but the two-player races get properly chaotic. It’s the kind of game where you’ll finish a race and immediately want to try again because you swear you saw a faster route.
