Game Overview

Ever play a game where you're a tiny bronchial tube fighting off dust bunnies and secondhand smoke? Bronkie the Health Hero is exactly that—a weirdly charming SNES platformer where you jump, dash, and power-up through lungs like some kind of microscopic superhero. At first, the idea sounds ridiculous (because it is), but after five minutes, you're totally invested in saving alveoli from evil pollen clouds.

The controls feel like a lighter version of Super Mario World, with floaty jumps and enemies that look like they escaped from a biology textbook. One level has you dodging floating cigarette butts in a smoky nightclub, another pits you against a sneezing fit boss. And yeah, there are random health facts popping up—like "did you know asthma triggers include pet dander?"—but they don’t kill the fun. The music’s got this upbeat 16-bit cheeriness that somehow makes learning about inhalers feel cool.

It’s definitely a product of the '90s edutainment era, but unlike most of those games, Bronkie doesn’t feel like homework. More like someone took a public service announcement and turned it into a Saturday morning cartoon. If you dig obscure retro games with personality, this one’s a lungful of fresh air.
