Brothers In Arms DS came out for the Nintendo DS in 2007, published by Ubisoft. It was part of that wave of World War II shooters on the system, trying to bring a more tactical, squad-based experience to a handheld. It didn't have the graphical power of the console versions, but it used the DS hardware in its own way.

You control Sergeant Matt Baker, leading a small squad through missions in Normandy and the Ardennes. The main goal is to complete objectives by outmaneuvering German troops, using cover and flanking tactics. The touchscreen lets you direct your squadmates to specific positions or order them to lay down suppressing fire. Combat is methodical; you spend a lot of time pinned down, scanning for opportunities to move or flank. The difficulty can spike during intense firefights, especially in the four-player versus mode. It feels like a careful, thoughtful kind of war, where every move counts.
