Game Overview

Captain Buzz Lightyear - Star Command on Game Boy Color is one of those licensed games that actually gets it right. You jump, shoot, and occasionally puzzle-solve your way through chunky pixel levels that feel ripped straight from the cartoon. The first level throws you right into it—Buzz’s laser blasts have a satisfying pew pew sound, and the robots explode into little bolts and springs when you hit them.

It’s not super deep, but there’s something weirdly charming about how faithfully it captures the vibe of the show. The sprite work is surprisingly detailed for a GBC game—Buzz’s helmet even has that little purple tint. And yeah, you fight Zurg eventually, but the real fun is in the smaller moments, like rescuing stranded cadets who then cheer you on from the background.

If you’ve got a soft spot for late-90s Disney handheld games, this one’s a solid time capsule. Just don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel.
