Play Cars (I)(Independent) Online

You’re Lightning McQueen drifting through short, simple tracks with that weird floaty handling, occasionally pausing to swap tires in a minigame nobody asked for. At least the voices sound like the movie.

Game Overview

Cars for the Game Boy Advance came out in 2006, developed by LSP. It was one of many licensed games from that era, built to tie in with the Pixar film. The hardware was aging, but it still had a solid library of pick-up-and-play titles, and this one fit right in.

You control Lightning McQueen, racing on short tracks against a few opponents. The main goal is to win each cup by finishing first in a series of races. The handling feels light and a bit slippery, making drifting around corners the primary way to maintain speed. Between some races, you engage in tire-changing minigames that break up the pacing. The difficulty is generally low, aimed at younger players, but the races can feel repetitive after a while. It captures the movie's energy with decent sound clips, but the overall experience is straightforward and simple.
