Game Overview

I first played Clash of Steel back in the 90s, a 1993 release from Strategic Simulations, Inc. for MS-DOS. It was one of those deep, turn-based strategy games that came out before everything had to be in 3D, when you spent more time thinking than clicking. It covers the entire European theater of World War II, from 1939 right through to 1945.

You control the entire military force of either the Axis or the Allies, moving armies, air fleets, and naval groups across a hexagonal map of Europe. The main objective is to achieve historical victory conditions, like capturing key cities or surviving until a certain date. Key mechanics involve managing production to build new units and meticulously planning offensives while ensuring your stretched supply lines don't collapse. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty is punishing if you make a rash move. It feels like conducting a massive, intricate orchestra where every instrument is a tank division.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
