Game Overview

Dave Goes Nutz came out in 1993 as part of Softdisk Publishing's MS-DOS Classic Games series. It was one of those shareware platformers that felt right at home on a floppy disk, back when games were simple, direct, and didn't take themselves too seriously. You knew what you were getting just from the title; it was goofy, a little rough, and made no attempt to hide its B-game charm.

You control Dave, a character armed with a shotgun, moving through side-scrolling levels filled with odd enemies like syringe-wielding zombies. The goal is straightforward: shoot everything that moves, avoid obstacles, and survive to the end of each stage. The shooting feels responsive, with enemies reacting physically to each blast, often tumbling or flying back with exaggerated force. Level design is compact and challenging, demanding quick reflexes and careful jumps. It’s chaotic, silly, and over before you know it, but there’s a satisfying immediacy to clearing a screen of enemies with well-placed shots.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
