Death by Dark Shadows came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection. It was developed by a small team whose name I can't quite recall, but it fits right in with the moody, exploration-heavy platformers of that era. The game doesn't try to dazzle you with flashy graphics; instead, it pulls you in with its oppressive atmosphere and deliberate pacing.

You control a lone knight navigating a labyrinthine castle filled with traps and shadowy enemies. Your main goal is to find and defeat the dark lord haunting the place, but getting there means surviving screen by screen. You use a sword for close combat, timing your swings carefully to avoid taking damage, and you often rely on environmental clues to progress. The pacing is slow and methodical, with a high difficulty that punishes haste. Playing it feels like a constant, tense dance between caution and action.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
