Deltora Quest on the DS is one of those underrated RPGs that slipped under the radar for a lot of people. You start off as Lief, following the classic "reluctant hero" trope—except here, you're actually hunting down seven magical gems to save your kingdom from the Shadow Lord (who, by the way, is way creepier than he sounds).

The combat’s turn-based but keeps you on your toes with timing-based attacks—mess up the button combo and your sword swing just kinda flops. And the puzzles? Some are obvious, but others had me scratching my head until I realized I needed to use the DS mic to blow out a candle. Who even thinks of that?

It’s got that old-school JRPG vibe with chunky sprites and a surprisingly moody soundtrack. If you’re into dungeon crawling with a side of weird DS gimmicks, this one’s a solid time capsule from 2008.
