Digimon World 4 is a weird little action RPG where you and up to three friends hack and slash through dungeons as your favorite Digimon. It’s a big shift from the usual turn-based stuff—this one plays more like a chaotic dungeon crawler where you’re constantly smacking viruses with swords or fireballs.

You start by picking one of four Digimon (Dorumon’s my go-to, but Veemon’s decent if you like speed). They’re part of some digital security team fighting off the X-virus, which honestly feels like an excuse to throw you into levels full of monsters to whack. The digivolution system’s neat—your Digimon changes form based on how you play, so if you lean hard into magic, don’t expect a beefy warrior later.

The magic training is oddly satisfying, though. You don’t just level up spells—you actually practice them in a little training dojo, which makes it feel like your Digimon’s really learning. Just don’t jump into "very hard" mode unless you enjoy pain.

It’s janky, but there’s something charming about running around as a tiny dinosaur with a sword.
