Game Overview

Digimon Yellow Jade is one of those weird little Game Boy Color games that somehow slipped under the radar—which is a shame, because it’s way more fun than it has any right to be. You start off with this tiny, scrappy Digimon that looks like it could barely win a fight against a particularly aggressive houseplant, but give it a few battles and some careful training, and suddenly you’ve got this monstrous, pixelated beast tearing through enemies.

The evolution paths are nuts—I restarted twice because my first Digimon turned into this weird, lumpy thing instead of the cool dragon I was aiming for. Battles are simple but satisfying, with just enough strategy to keep you from button-mashing your way through. And yeah, it’s got that classic Digimon vibe where half the fun is seeing what bizarre form your partner digivolves into next.

No idea why this one never got the same hype as Pokémon back in the day, but if you’ve still got a GBC lying around (or an emulator), it’s a solid way to kill an afternoon. Just be warned: you might get weirdly attached to your little digital monster.
