Game Overview

Okay, so Digital Monsters 3 on Game Boy Color is basically what happens when Digimon and Pokémon have a weird, wonderful baby. At first glance, it looks like another monster-collecting RPG—but then you realize the evolution trees are way deeper, and some of these pixel creatures turn into absolute beasts if you train them right.

I remember starting with a little blob thing (Koromon, I think?) and spending way too long figuring out whether to focus on strength or speed stats. Turns out, feeding them the wrong stuff too often can lock you into some awkward mid-tier forms. The battles feel surprisingly tactical too—it’s not just spamming attacks, since type matchups and digivolution timing actually matter.

It’s got that janky late-90s charm where everything’s a little rough around the edges, but somehow that just makes it more endearing. If you’ve got a soft spot for old-school handheld RPGs, this one’s a solid time capsule.
