Game Overview

Dime City came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Starbyte Software. It was one of those mid-90s titles that tried to blend strategy with action in a gritty urban setting, fitting right in with the era's interest in open-world crime games before the genre really exploded.

You control a small-time criminal trying to build a crime empire across a city divided into neighborhoods. Your main goal is to take over territories by completing missions, like rigging elections or robbing banks, while avoiding police and rival gangs. The game uses screen-by-screen exploration, letting you move between city blocks to recruit thugs, buy weapons, and initiate turf wars. The pacing is methodical, with sudden bursts of violence, and the difficulty can spike when multiple factions come after you at once. It feels like managing chaos, where every decision carries weight and mistakes get messy fast.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
