Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is one of those weird, wonderful GameCube gems that makes you wonder how it ever got made. You control DK by slapping actual bongo controllers—left drum to move left, right drum to move right, and clapping (yes, clapping) to jump. It sounds gimmicky, but somehow it just works.

The levels are these sprawling jungle playgrounds where you’re constantly bouncing off vines, juggling enemies in midair, and collecting bananas like a manic fruit-hoarder. The better your combos, the more bananas you rack up, and the whole thing has this weirdly satisfying rhythm to it. I remember my first playthrough—kept forgetting to clap for jumps and faceplanted into way too many pits.

It’s not your typical platformer, but that’s what makes it special. The bongos give it this physical, almost musical feel, and the levels get gloriously chaotic later on. Just don’t play it late at night unless you want your roommates to think you’ve lost it.
