Double Dragon Advance (J) is one of those classic beat-em-ups that feels just right on the GBA. You start off with simple punches and kicks, but soon you're grabbing pipes, whips, even knives off the ground to deal with the endless waves of thugs. The controls are tight, though some of the special moves take a bit of practice to pull off consistently.
What stands out is how chaotic it gets when playing co-op. You and a friend can team up, but half the time you end up accidentally smacking each other in the frenzy. The enemy AI isn't too smart, but they swarm you fast, especially in later stages. The pixel art holds up well, with nice little details like glass shattering when you throw someone through a window.
It's not a deep game, but Double Dragon Advance (J) nails that old-school arcade feel where you just want to keep pushing forward to see what ridiculous boss fight comes next. The music is pure 80s cheese in the best way.
