Double Dragon II on Game Boy is weirdly not the same game you remember from the arcade or NES. It’s actually a stripped-down version of some Japanese-exclusive brawler, which means you get this odd mix of side-scrolling punches and weirdly floaty jumps. The sprites are tiny, and the controls take some getting used to—like, why does my guy feel like he’s sliding on ice half the time? But once you adjust, there’s something charming about how janky it is. You’ll still kick dudes into pits and occasionally team up with a friend, just don’t expect the same polish as the console versions. It’s a weird little piece of Double Dragon history.
