Game Overview

Ever thought about how the Saiyans would handle their own doomsday? Dragon Ball Z Gaiden - Saiya Jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku (yeah, good luck pronouncing that) drops you into a bleak alternate timeline where the entire Saiyan race is about to get wiped out. You take control of Bardock, Goku, and a few others in a turn-based scramble to stop it—which, for an NES game, feels way more intense than you’d expect.

The combat’s simple at first—pick attacks, manage ki—but then you realize positioning and timing actually matter, especially when you’re up against waves of enemies. The story’s surprisingly grim for a DBZ spin-off, with some legit "oh damn" moments if you know the lore. It’s rough around the edges (it is an NES RPG), but there’s something weirdly gripping about trying to rewrite Saiyan history before the game over screen laughs at you.

If you’ve ever wanted a darker, strategy-heavy take on early Dragon Ball, this obscure little cartridge is worth digging up.
