Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi’s Journey is basically Pokémon but with that classic Dragon Quest charm. You start off as this kid, Cobi, who gets whisked away to a monster-filled world—no boring tutorials, just straight into catching and breeding weird little creatures. The breeding system is where it gets wild; mix two monsters and you might end up with something completely unexpected, like a slime fused with a dragon. It’s addictively random.

Battles are turn-based, but the real fun is in building your team. Some monsters are total duds at first, but after a few generations of breeding, they evolve into absolute beasts. The pixel art still holds up, too—those chunky GBC sprites have so much personality. If you played the first one, this expands on everything, with more monsters and way bigger worlds to explore. Tara’s Adventure is the same game but with a different starting story, so pick whichever sibling you vibe with more.
