Game Overview

DuckTales: The Quest for Gold is one of those weirdly addictive MS-DOS games that shouldn’t work as well as it does. You play as Scrooge McDuck—obviously—but instead of just bouncing on enemies with your cane, you’re running a business empire while hunting treasure across the globe. It’s part strategy, part adventure, and all ridiculous duck-themed capitalism.

The first time I played, I spent way too long just clicking through Scrooge’s mansion, laughing at the little animations of him swimming in gold or getting into petty fights with Glomgold. The actual gameplay is surprisingly deep—you hire employees (including Huey, Dewey, and Louie, because child labor laws don’t apply in Duckburg), invest in mines and oil fields, and race rivals to dig sites before they snatch the loot. Sometimes you’ll get ambushed by the Beagle Boys mid-trip, which never stops being funny.

It’s janky in that old-school PC game way, but the charm totally holds up. Just don’t expect the NES version’s platforming—this is more like a board game where the pieces occasionally quack at you. And yeah, you will hum the theme song for days afterward.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
