Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions on PSP is basically the same deep, punishingly strategic RPG you remember from PS1—just with a few nice extras. Yeah, the graphics are zoomed in to fit the smaller screen, but those new cel-shaded cutscenes between chapters actually look gorgeous. Still can’t skip dialogue scenes though, which hurts on replay.
They tossed in Balthier (FFXII’s sky pirate, weirdly) and Luso from Tactics A2 as bonus characters, plus two new jobs: Onion Knight (goofy but strong) and Dark Knight (no cheat code required this time). The multiplayer modes are fun if you’ve got friends with PSPs—versus battles or co-op missions, unlocked once you hit the world map. Just head to any tavern to start.
It’s still one of the best tactical RPGs ever, warts and all.
