Game Overview

Gargoyle's Quest 2 feels like a weird, moody cousin to your typical NES action games. You still play as Firebrand, that little red gargoyle from Ghosts 'n Goblins, but here he's got his own adventure—part side-scrolling action, part overworld exploration. The dungeons are tense, claustrophobic crawls where you’re blasting enemies with fireballs and hovering just long enough to avoid spikes, while the overworld map lets you zip around way faster than in the first game (thankfully).

No random battles this time, which is nice, but you do get this weird Magic Tornado ability that… honestly, I never quite figured out when to use it best. And yeah, it’s 1992, but you’re still scribbling down those absurdly long passwords like it’s 1985. Still, there’s something charming about how stubbornly old-school it is.
