Game Overview

Gold of the Americas: The Conquest of the New World came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was one of those strategy titles that quietly filled shelves alongside more action-oriented games, offering a methodical take on colonial expansion during the early years of computer gaming. You don't see many like it now, but back then it fit right in with the turn-based, resource-heavy simulations that asked players to think several moves ahead.

You control a European nation, managing ships, colonists, and troops while exploring the unmapped coasts of the Americas. The main goal is to establish colonies, gather gold and resources, and outmaneuver rival powers through trade or force. Key mechanics include navigating screen by screen through fog of war, negotiating (or plundering) indigenous settlements, and dealing with random events like storms or disease. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty comes from balancing limited supplies against ambitious expansion. It feels like a tense, calculated gamble where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
