Half-Minute Hero came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by Marvelous Entertainment. It was a clever little game for its time, fitting right into the PSP's library of quirky, inventive titles that didn't take themselves too seriously. You don't see many games built around such a strict time limit, and it made for a memorable experience on the handheld.

You control a young hero tasked with defeating an evil lord who's cast a world-ending spell; you have just 30 seconds to stop him. You explore the world screen by screen, fighting monsters to gain gold and levels, buying better gear in towns, and sometimes delving into short dungeons for key items. The real tension comes from managing the clock: you can pay the Time Goddess to reset the countdown, but only a few times per stage. It's fast, challenging, and surprisingly strategic for such a condensed format. Rushing through each mission while making every second count gives the game a frantic, satisfying rhythm.
