Game Overview

Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars came out in 1996 for MS-DOS, developed by New World Computing. It was part of that wave of deep, turn-based strategy games that really rewarded patience and planning, back when games didn't hold your hand through every decision.

You control rival lords vying for a throne, managing towns, recruiting armies, and exploring a large map filled with mines, monsters, and treasure. The main goal is to conquer enemy towns and eliminate opponents, which you achieve by carefully moving hero units across the landscape each turn. Key mechanics include capturing resource-generating structures to fund your expansion, engaging in tactical combat on a separate grid-based battlefield, and researching spells to turn the tide. The pacing is deliberate, often demanding careful resource management and long-term strategy over quick action. It feels like conducting a slow, satisfying campaign where every small advantage adds up.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
