Game Overview

Jones in the Fast Lane is one of those weirdly addictive MS-DOS games that makes you feel like you're both running a life simulator and playing a board game at the same time. You start broke, scrambling for any job that’ll take you—burger flipping, office temping, whatever pays. Then you realize you’re stuck in a loop of work, eat, sleep, repeat unless you actually plan ahead.

The board is a grid of city locations, and every move costs time. Do you spend your week studying to get a better job, or grind extra shifts to afford rent? The game doesn’t judge, but it definitely punishes bad decisions. I lost my first run because I ignored happiness and my character just… quit on me. Classic.

It’s got this dry humor too—like how the "luxury" upgrade is literally just a plant for your apartment. The AI rivals are either ruthlessly efficient or hilariously bad, depending on their mood. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the rat race with all the stress but none of the real-life consequences, this is the game for you.

Still holds up as a clever, slightly brutal take on adulting.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
