Game Overview

I picked up Judge Dredd for the Super Nintendo back in 1995, a time when licensed games were everywhere and Acclaim Entertainment was pushing out a lot of them. It was one of those action platformers that felt very much of its era, with big, detailed sprites and a gritty comic book aesthetic that tried to capture the look of the source material.

You control Judge Dredd himself, moving through side-scrolling levels, shooting criminals and occasionally jumping across platforms. The main goal is to clear each stage of enemies and reach the end, often facing a boss. One of the key mechanics is switching between different ammo types on the fly, like standard rounds or ricochet bullets, which adds a bit of strategy to the combat. The pacing is fast, though the platforming can feel stiff and the difficulty spikes in certain sections. Playing it gives you that rough but earnest mid-90s action game feel, where you push through the clunk because the atmosphere pulls you in.
