Jumping Cross came out in 1992 as an arcade cabinet release from Jumping Studios. It was part of that wave of early 90s games where developers were really pushing what you could do with sprite scaling and fast, punishing action. You saw a lot of titles trying to capture that same intensity, but Jumping Cross had its own particular flavor of frustration and reward.

You control a rider on a dirt bike, navigating a side scrolling course filled with massive jumps and uneven terrain. The main goal is simple: finish each race without crashing, and ideally beat the other riders to the finish line. The signature mechanics are all about timing and throttle control; you have to hold the accelerator to build speed for a jump, then release at the exact right moment to get the perfect arc. Land poorly and your rider tumbles, costing precious seconds. The game is brutally difficult, demanding near perfect execution on later tracks. It feels like a constant battle between your reflexes and the physics of the bike.
