Play Kings Quest III: To Heir Is Human Online

You start as a wizard’s overworked servant, sneaking spells when he’s gone—until you turn him into a cat and discover you’re actually a prince. Those Sierra puzzles? Brutal, but flipping the script feels amazing.

Game Overview

Kings Quest III: To Heir Is Human came out in 1986 for MS-DOS, developed and published by Sierra On-Line. It was part of that wave of early graphical adventures where you typed commands to interact with the world, and it stood out for its fantasy setting and ambitious scope.

You play as Gwydion, a young boy held captive by the wicked wizard Manannan. Your main goal is to escape his clutches, but first you must learn magic by secretly studying his spellbook while he is away. The game uses screen by screen exploration, with a parser interface where you type actions like "get herbs" or "cast lightning." You gather ingredients for spells, solve environmental puzzles, and avoid the wizard's return; the pacing is tense, and the difficulty is high, with many ways to fail or get stuck. It feels like a genuine struggle for freedom, where every small success matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
