Game Overview

I picked up Knights' Kingdom for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a time when the handheld was full of action platformers. It was developed by Digital Eclipse and published by The 3DO Company, and it fit right in with the kind of straightforward, level-based adventures that were common then. You don't hear much about it now, but it had a certain charm that made it stand out in a crowded field.

You control a knight who moves through a series of side scrolling stages, slashing at goblins and skeletons with your sword. The main goal is to rescue the king's captured son, which means fighting your way through forests, castles, and underground tunnels. Key mechanics include breaking open barrels and crates to find health restoratives or temporary power ups, like a broader sword swing or a protective shield. The game moves at a steady pace, and the difficulty feels fair, with enemy patterns you can learn after a few attempts. It feels satisfying to methodically clear each screen and push further into the quest.
