Game Overview

Konchuu Fighters was a Japan only release for the Game Boy Color, developed by KID and published by Imagineer. It came out during a time when the handheld was full of experimental fighting games, and this one stood out by focusing entirely on insects. You don't play as humans or monsters; you pick a beetle, a mantis, or another bug and duke it out.

You control your chosen insect warrior in one on one fights, using a combination of basic attacks, special moves, and grabs. The main goal is to deplete your opponent's health bar before they deplete yours. Two key mechanics define the fights: each insect has a unique weight and speed that drastically changes how they control, and certain attacks can temporarily stun opponents, opening them up for bigger combos. The pacing is methodical; you have to pick your moments instead of rushing in. It feels like a careful, tactical scrap in a tiny arena.
